Cable Quantity & Box Calculator

Work out how many metres and 305 m boxes of network cable a job needs, and check the longest run.

Along the cable path from the rack to the outlet, not in a straight line.

Service loops and termination at both ends.

Results

Cable needed: 1,003 m

Boxes to order: 4

Left over: 217 m

Longest run with slack: 73 m

Runs over 90 m will not pass certification for Ethernet; plan a closer switch or fibre for them.

How it works

Each run is its length plus slack. The runs are added up and a waste allowance goes on top, and the boxes are that total divided by the box length, rounded up. The longest run with slack is checked against the 90 m permanent link that TIA-568 allows (100 m including patch leads).
