Two ways to manage it

Catalyst on site, or Meraki in the cloud

Cisco makes switches and access points for both styles of management. We choose on the size of the site, who will look after the network day to day, and whether you want everything run from a browser.

Cisco Catalyst

Switches and wireless set up and watched from inside your own network, from the built-in web page on a small switch through to Catalyst Center across a campus.

  • Catalyst 1200 and 1300: 8 to 48 port switches with no licence to buy
  • Catalyst 9200 and 9300: stackable switches for larger buildings
  • Cisco Business Dashboard to keep an eye on several small sites
  • Catalyst Center for automation and network health at scale

Cisco Meraki

Every Meraki device is configured, monitored and fixed from one web dashboard. Wireless, switching, security appliances, cameras and sensors sit side by side, and many Catalyst switches can now join the same dashboard.

  • MR access points and MS switches
  • MX security appliances with SD-WAN between branches
  • MV smart cameras and MT environmental sensors
  • MG cellular gateways for sites without a fixed line

What the network actually does

Cameras, readers and intercoms are only as dependable as the network they run on. These are the Cisco features that matter most on our jobs.

Power over Ethernet

One cable carries power and data to each camera, reader and access point. Catalyst 1200 switches keep power flowing while the switch itself restarts, and ports can be powered down on a schedule.

Ports that set themselves

Catalyst 1200 and 1300 switches recognise what is plugged in and configure the port to suit. Auto Surveillance VLAN puts camera traffic on its own lane, away from office traffic.

One dashboard

Meraki devices are provisioned, watched and troubleshot from one web dashboard, for one site or many. Catalyst 9200 and 9300 switches can be brought into the same view.

Wi-Fi 7 and location

Wi-Fi 7 access points cover the inside of the building and the Cisco Wireless 9177 handles outdoor areas. Cisco Spaces, a cloud service, adds real-time location of tagged assets and environmental readings.

Cameras with their own storage

Meraki MV cameras record to storage inside each camera, from 256 GB to 4 TB depending on the model, so there is no separate recorder in the rack. Motion search, people and vehicle detection and an optional Cloud Archive run from the same dashboard.

Teracom and Cisco

What Teracom does on a Cisco job

  1. Design

Switch sizes, PoE budgets, VLANs and access point positions planned around every camera, reader and intercom on the drawings.

  2. Install and commission

Switches racked and patched, access points mounted, and every port labelled and tested before the security devices go live.

  3. Connect to monitoring

Alarm panels and cameras on the Cisco network can report through to our monitoring centre, with the path tested end to end.

  4. Look after it

Firmware updates, Meraki and Catalyst licence renewals and health checks handled on a maintenance plan.

Why Teracom works with Cisco

Networking infrastructure that scales from edge to cloud.

One Dashboard, Whole Network

Catalyst switches and access points connect into the Meraki cloud dashboard for single-pane-of-glass visibility, monitoring and troubleshooting across hybrid on-premises and cloud-managed networks.

Threat Intelligence Built In

Cisco Talos is one of the largest commercial threat intelligence teams in the industry, feeding real-world threat research directly into Cisco's security and networking products.

Four Decades of Networking

Cisco has spent over 40 years building the infrastructure that runs the internet, from its earliest routers to today's Catalyst and Meraki hardware.

A Global Trained Workforce

Cisco Networking Academy has trained more than 20 million people in over 190 countries since 1997, building the bench of Cisco-certified talent that keeps networks running.

Flexible Deployment, Your Way

Catalyst hardware can be managed on-premises with traditional tools or fully cloud-managed through Meraki, letting customers choose or combine both approaches as their network evolves.

Cisco is one of the world's largest networking equipment manufacturers, known for enterprise and small business switches, wireless access points, routers and network security products. We supply Cisco networking hardware -- including managed PoE switches and Aironet wireless access points -- as part of the network infrastructure behind the CCTV, access control and other systems we install, where reliable, secure connectivity between devices matters as much as the security equipment itself.
